We celebrated Songkran Day at our local temple Wat Greensboro. We had a good turnout, and the celebration of a Cambodian, Lao Pee Mai, and Thai New Year is more festive this year.
Alms giving
The food vendors were busy, this one had a long line.
This made me think of back home of how friends and family shared meal at the temple.
And listening to music playing by a local artist.
We pour water over Buddha images for blessing and cleansing the rust from our soul.
We songk nom pra or pour water over monk’s hands for blessing. Blessing is much needed for the young.
And the elder.
Jaydee Cide or sand stupas.
Instead of splashing water, it’s shaving cream in this part of the country.

Lumvong
A traditional Cambodian game play on New Year’s Day to bring in good luck. It’s like a ceramic pinata filled with baby power and money. It’s a lot of fun to watch and I’ve included it in the video.
Lee and my niece have been working on their jewelries for several months now, and something that they are very proud of. They came up with their own designs and I helped with the wiring.
They worked their booths the whole time, and made the sale themselves. Lee pieces attract teenagers and adults.
My niece pieces attract younger children.
They donated the proceed of their sales to the temple. Lee donated $65 and my niece donated $30, I think they did well for their first time.

Thanks nickzantop for your visit and comment. This is one of the biggest events at the temple and it’s very festive but Songkran in the US is nothing like back home in Thailand or Laos.

And congrats to the girls on their bracelet fund raising for the temple. They are learning such valuable life lessons at a young age.
Thanks cn, I’m glad it turned out well for the girls, I’m very proud of them and they have been working so hard for this. They are looking forward to the next event. It does teach them a valuable lesson. 🙂

lady0fdarkness, I was busy helping the girls and taking photos that I didn’t get to eat much this time. It does fell good to get blessed during the new year, it’s a beautiful tradition that we have and I’m glad that it’s not lost in the West.
