This is our tenth year attending the July 4th celebration at Wat Lao Buddhavong in Catlett Virginia. This year’s celebration was held on Saturday, July 2nd, and Sunday, July 3rd. Every year I look forward to the event but this year I was so burnt out from work that I got sick on my vacation. This was not the first year that I got sick on the week of the 4th, and hope to be in better health next year.
The last few years the temple had less and lesser people attending the July 4th event, and this year was the worst. We were told that many temples were holding the July 4th event at their local temples and that’s why they didn’t have a good turnout.
They brought in local Lao and Thai singers, local meaning from the US. In the past years, the temple brought in famous Thai singers from Thailand and had good crowd until the last few years. I felt really bad for the singers, they did an awesome job and I certainly enjoy recording their performances.
