Wat Lao Buddhavong June 30, 2012 Maitai Jaitawan

This is our sixth year attending the July 4th celebration at Wat Lao Buddhavong in Catlett Virginia, and this year fell on Saturday June 30th and July 1st. We got to Wat on Friday evening and a wind storm hit town around 10:30 pm that night.  The power went off, and it didn’t come back on until almost 9 am Saturday morning just in time for the Boun event.

The highlight of the event was a singer from Thailand Maitai Jaitawan ไหมไทย ใจตะวัน, which I didn’t think that he would make his appearance.  His concert was scheduled for 3 pm but he didn’t make it until 7:30 pm that evening and could only perform Saturday since he was scheduled to fly back to Thailand right after the concert. It was extremely hot and I think it had to be in the 100+, and his fans waited patiently for his appearance.

I saw his music video on YouTube and he looked different and this must be his new looks, the Michael Jackson looks.  He sprained his ankle so his dance looks awkward.

Most of his fans gave him $20 bills, and I have to admit that he has a great voice and certainly gave a good performance. I ran out of battery at the end and only able to get a few shots and record a few clips here and there so I hope you will enjoy.

My dad enjoyed the concert and we stayed until 9 pm when it ended.

  1. I have heard about the storm – and all the many who do not have power – I hope it is to be fixed soon. It seems that you had a good day during the 4th of July!

    • Hi Truels, we went camping after the weekend event at the temple and the campground didn’t have any water and power. It was rough camping but we survived and the power came back Tuesday night when we got back home. I’m glad there’s not much damage to the temple ground.

  2. I was there for 2 hours it was too hot I didn’t get a chance to see Maitai oh well. I did saw you and your family up front row and center.

    • Hi salalao, I didn’t think I would make it this year, and let along sitting there to photograph the event since I was so sick the day before. I must have looked awful, perhaps it will be better next year. They were so unorganized and I thought about leaving several times, but I’m glad that I stayed till the end.

  5. I was there 2 days little too late… Oh well, I guess I didn’t miss much from what I heard from the folks that was there. First of all, he looks scary…looks like he haven’t slept for the past 3 days. He just didn’t look right, I guess this is his new style.

    Aow..salalao how come you didn’t walk up to Nye and introduce yourself?

    • seeharhed, I’m glad that he made it to the temple, better late than never. I actually gave up on him showing up and started using my reserved memory card and battery. The group that was with him were pretty good and I feel bad that I didn’t do a video on them. As for Maitai, despite his appearance, he sounds great in live concert.

      I’m glad salalao didn’t approach me, I looked like crap also. 🙂

    • Hhaha same with someone showing up two day. Beside I was too tire, too bord, too hot disappointed with the concert blah……………all the excuse oh well there ‘re always next year.

      • hahhahahah but… I am glad I didn’t plan on attending the concert, otherwise I would be so disappointed. I can’t believe how hot it was, I can’t handle that hot and humid weather at all. No more visiting east coast during the summer time.
