Saturday Random Photos

The weather is getting cooler in our area and leaves start to change colors but we won’t be seeing anything dramatic for a few weeks or so. My sister likes to make sweet treats, and Sticky Rice and Mango is one of my favorite desserts. As for now the color of the mango does remind me of the autumn leaves, it’s quiet comforting to eat it while the sticky rice is still hot and steamy.

My dad brought the mangoes from the flea market and they are not ripened when he made the purchase. He said that leaving them in a rice bin will help speed things up and make them sweeter, and make sure to cover the bin with a lid. This was something that he had done back home and I have to say that it does turn a sour mango sweet over night.

On Saturday we went to Claremont, a nearby town to visit their Claremont Day.  Lee and my niece had fun sliding down the Rapid Slide.  This is our first time visiting the event and they had a good turnout for a small event, they had rides and activities for the kids.  Next weekend is Hickory Oktoberfest and I’m looking forward to visiting, the event is bigger and will draw more crowd.

They had the dog show, this one said “Kiss me I’m Irish”.   I didn’t try my luck since s/he was barking when we got there.

He is a big one, and I don’t think he is part of the show. Lee is probably not a lot taller than him or might be the same height.

I often wondered when did I turn into a photo blog.  I guess it might not be a bad thing since it’s a universal language.

  1. I’ve never heard of placing the mangoes to ripen like that. But I have ripen my avocados by putting them in a brown paper bag along with a ripe banana. They say the gas from the bananas encourage the process.

This looks like fun weekend, for the family and the dogs. 🙂

    • Cambree, the idea must be the same, I found the answer here that “ripening fruit generates Ethylene gas. If this gas is trapped around a ripening fruit in sealed bag or container it accelerates the ripening process.”

We thought about visiting Knob Creek to pick apples and when I called they don’t allow people in the apple orchard, so we went to the Claremont fair instead and sure enough they had apples there. There are many family fun activities in our area this time of the year, the weekend is not long enough imo. 🙂

    • Scott, thanks so much for your support, you’ve always been very generous in sharing your knowledge and talent. I’m glad I took up photography, I have many photos to share with my family also. 🙂

    • Thanks mozemoua, it sticks the pounds to you like crazy also. I always have to go on a diet after eating a bowl of this. 🙂
