The Road to Recovery

Thank you all for the well wishes. I feel a lot better today, what used to be a simple task is not so simple anymore. I’m able to cook myself a simple meal and chicken and ginger soup is something that I prepared this morning.

All I knew when I went into surgery on Friday night was that I had a huge gallstone in the mouth of my gallbladder. I was scheduled for outpatient surgery and the doctor did a laparoscopic surgery, which he removed my gallbladder.   The stone was huge and he had to cut a bit deeper and as a result I came home with a drainage tube and hopefully he will remove it by tomorrow.

The two types of gallstones are cholesterol stones and pigment stones.  Cholesterol stones are usually yellow-green and are made primarily of hardened cholesterol, they account for about 80 percent of gallstones.  Pigment stones are small, dark stones made of bilirubin.  The gallstones can be as small as a grain of sand or as large as a golf ball.  The gallbladder can develop just one large stone, hundreds of tiny stones, or a combination of the two. Source. In my case it was one large stone the size of a robin’s egg, click to view the image. Bo went to the lab to take a picture with his iPhone and from the look of it I think mine was made of the bilirubin and the doctor seems to think that it’s genetic also since my older sister had one about 7 years  ago.

It’s good to be back on my feet again and thanks again for the well wishes. 🙂

  1. Take care sweetie. Your soup looks like just the thing you need. Do you have a restricted diet now? Can I send you some cookies? Just email me through my about on my blog and I will send you something sweet if you can have it. 🙂 Maybe Lee can eat them too.

    • Thanks Geni, it’s very kind of you. I’m not on any restricted diet, and could eat what I feel like at the moment, although I try not to eat anything too spicy. Lee has been a great help around the house and it’s pretty much taking it one day at a time.

  2. good to hear you’re getting better! i can’t believe that thing was stuck in your body. 😀 take it easy for a while! 😀

    • Thanks Kamee. I guess it’s building up all these years and everybody’s body breaks things down differently. I kept thinking for the last 2 months that something is wrong with me and I’m trying to fight off a cold or virus but never thought it would be a gallstone. I’m glad it’s out. 🙂

    • Scott, since I was moving very slow, I decided to set up the gear and have everything ready before I put the soup down on the table. I’m glad I was able to capture the steam. 🙂

  3. I´m sorry that I didn´t read about this before now, I wish you a fast recovery! Pain from gallstones is awfull.
