I saw this assignment at Scott’s blog and thought it would be fun to participate. The deadline is March 6th, and I found out about this last night and was able to use February’s photos. I took a few more photos this morning and have to hunt for the rest this afternoon and evening. As soon as I have everything posted, I’ll link to Karma’s assignment page. The assignment was through her blog, so stay tune. I finally found all my photos, and this post is my contribution to Karma’s Photo Scavenger Hunt.
a bridge – The red bridge photo was taken this morning. It’s in my garden and desperately needs a new coat of paint.
a newspaper headline – This morning Hickory Daily Record’s headline, we still get the local newspaper delivered to our office.
a postbox – I went to the post office during my lunch break. This is the Conover Post Office.
You might wonder who still use the service, believe it or not I still pay my bills by mail.
a big round clock face – The City Hall is right next to the post office. This is the clock at Conover City Hall.
a park bench – After finished photographing the clock, I headed to downtown Hickory to take a park bench photo. I found two and couldn’t decide which one I like best so I posted both photos.
This one is outside the Science Center and Hickory Museum of Art.
a big lorry/truck – I live in an industrial town so there are plenty of trucks around. I visited one place that I knew they wouldn’t call the cops on me. Can you believe the change in the weather, the clock photo was taken around noon, and the truck photo below was taken at 2:30 PM (14:30) today.
a musical instrument – A Lao/Thai musical instrument that I purchased from Wat Lao Buddhavong in July 2009.
eyes – These pair of eyes belong to my niece Na.
something heart-shaped – This is my mom’s orchid and the heart-shaped is at the center of the flower. She passed away 4 years ago and the plant is very special to us.
something red – My dad electric saw, he was cutting the fireplace panel in February.
something with stripes – an old fabric swatch that my sister gave me. These fabrics will take on a new life as kitchen towels.
My shoes – It’s a casual Friday and these shoes are made for walking. This would be a good pair since I had a lot of walking today.
Interesting assignment and great pictures. Does he announce a winner each week?
Hi seeharhed, the assignment is just for fun and a good way to learn about photography and how other photographers tackle the same subject. It looks like it’s monthly and I posted the links in the post. Here is a link to Karma’s blog post about the assignment.
BTW… That post office looks so familiar:-). It is not that far my buddy’s house
seeharhed, it’s a small town, although I live in a very sheltered life, not sure if your buddy knows me.
Nye, you need to post this on Karma’s blog. don’t forget!
Scott, I will as soon as I have it done, hopefully by this evening. 🙂
Looking forward to seeing the rest! You have a great set so far!
Hi Karma, it was a lot of fun driving around town, great assignment. 🙂
that was fun!
lady0fdarkness, sort of like a treasure hunt. 🙂
This is a fun post.
We have the musical instrument and Mrs S often tries to play it. We call it a woot/woodt (please excuse the poor and inaccurate transcription).
Take care.
Have a good week, Boonie
Hi Boonie, I forgot the name of the instrument, and we bought it when the Thai actor/singer Gorvidt was here at the Wat Lao Buddhavong Concert. Lee played it several times but I think it’s a lot harder than it looks.
It was a lot of fun hunting down these photos also. 🙂
I’m so glad you participated and got to finish your hunt! Your niece’s eyes are beautiful and playful! I love your park bench shots – in the first one, how nice to see blossoms in the background! A cheerful reminder that spring is on the way, and the second bench is so unique! The heart in the orchid is lovely and touching. Thanks again!
Hi Karma, this is a fun assignment, and looking forward to the next one. I’m glad I was able to complete the assignment on Friday because it was a rainy weekend here. The heart shaped was a challenge since I didn’t take anything heart shaped item on Valentine’s day, but have been noticing the heart shaped at the center of my mom’s orchid flowers and it works. 🙂
[…] was the next participant. She found out about my hunt via Scott’s place on March 4, and still managed to get her post in for today’s deadline! Impressive Nye! Nye’s adorable niece shows us her playful, […]
Great job! My favorite photo is the first park bench…just looks like a most wonderful place to sit! And the background contains something ‘pink’ and I love pink! Well done!
Hi milkayphoto, my goal was to take the cat bench photo but when I passed this little park and saw the pink flower tree in bloom I couldn’t resist and pulled in. It’s definitely a nice place to sit and relax. 🙂
This is a neat idea and great way for you to discover your home town.
I love the park bench photos – the classic bench with the spring flowers in the background. And the cat mural is very artistic.
Great job… and the girls are adorable. 🙂
Thanks Cambree, this would have been more fun doing it with Lee but I didn’t have much time and the weekend was not promising since it rained both days. I had the cat mural bench in mind when I headed that direction to take the park bench photo. We have several of the mural benches around town in Hickory.
This gives me a chance to post some of my February photos also. 🙂
Such good choices, Nye! I can see why you had to include both park benches. The first is beautiful and the second is irresistibly whimsical. It’s as if your whole day unrolled before us, all the little details of life taking their turn.
Hi Gerry, the post didn’t start out that way but it makes more sense to post it this way. The park bench was a tough choice but I’m glad that the rule is not that strict. 🙂
Great finds for Karma’s scavenger hunt! I can’t decide which one of the park benches I like better either.
I really like the musical instrument, it looks very interesting.
Hi thedailyclick, the park bench was a tough choice and I’m glad that I didn’t have to choose. The musical instrument is a bamboo wind pipes where you rest the dark tar part against your chin and blow into the pipes as you turn it around. It makes interesting sounds, although I don’t have any talent in music and it makes interesting noises for me instead. 🙂
I enjoyed the little tour around town as part of the scavenger hunt!
Thanks Jennifer, it’s fun to be able to do it in one day. 🙂
That’s pretty amazing that you managed to get all of those shots together in such a short space of time… and some real nice shots you got too… Love the park bench and flower shots…
Hi Brian, thanks for your visit and comment. It’s pretty crazy and I had to get it done on Friday since it rained the whole weekend. Next time I’ll give myself more time. 🙂
I’ve only participate once with Scott, I’ll have to get back on the mood again and start participating and also get back into photography! i’ve been slacking!
mozemoua, I learn a lot from these assignments. Scott just posted a new assignment, I think you would like this one.
