Saturday Random Photos

I’m testing out my new telephoto zoom lens and hope to put this into good use in the near future.  This is slightly longer than my old lens, but a lot lighter also. It’s the EF70-200mm f/4L USM, one thing that’s missing is the IS (Image Stabilizer) which cost $600 more that I couldn’t afford and can do without at the moment.  I have to make sure that I have a steady hand, which I also don’t have. So far I’m loving this lens, I need to visit the zoo or Biltmore for a real test.  As for indoor still life, not so bad and my mom’s last orchid fell yesterday.

The video captured is very sharp and clear.  My second sister is building her pet Lovebirds and Parakeet a new bird cage but I’m not sure how well they will get along. The yellow lovebird is very aggressive, and it’s a good thing that Mimi is a lot bigger and can probably defend himself.

My dad is helping my second sister with the bird cage.

It’s not completed yet, and still lacking the door. I think it might be finished today and will definitely have to go back for a visit.

I don’t know if this apply elsewhere, it’s illegal to ride the scooter on the road here, even in a 25 mph zone in our neighborhood. One of our neighbors got a ticket for riding a 4 wheeler yesterday, not surprise that he was reported in by another neighbor.  This made me think of my sister that lives in Queens, NY.  One morning she took her daughter to school on a bicycle and the cop gave her a ticket.  The reason was because she’s an adult and riding a bicycle on the sidewalk.  She went to court and the judge looked at the ticket and thought it was the most ridiculous thing, ripped it up and threw it in the trash. As for Lee, she has to ride it in our driveway only. This was taken right before dusk, I used a high ISO-3200 and there’s not a lot of digital noise as I feared before.

  1. Nice shots from new lens……..I think it’s one of very good lens…event mine also doesn’t has IS too, I always shoot by hand held, but just try to keep hands steady and learn to stop breathing in a right moment you releasing the shutter button.

    • Hi Jason, thanks for the tips. I’ve never heard of it before but it does make sense and will give this a try. There is going to be many events this month and I hope to be able to attend most of it, one being the balloon festival so it will be a good test for the lens.

  2. Nye, nice pictures from your new lens. Those IS lens sure are costly but the 200mm is nice lens to have on your collection. I hate to keep changing lens all the time when I’m out and about. That’s why I just stick with one lens, the 18-200mm IS and really love it.

    • seeharhed, thanks. My old lens is a wide angle and extends out to 105mm. It works well as a walk around lens and this would be the one that I would use all the time, I’m still loving it but it’s lacking the zoom capacity that I need when I attend the boat race or visit the zoo. I bet this would be good at the temple also. The changing lens part doesn’t bother me, it only take a few second. It would be nice to have the IS feature, my old lens came with it. Now I have to be more focus when I shoot.

  3. I’ve seen kids ride electric and gas powered scooters in the street here. I don’t think it’s legal but they do it anyway.

I am planning on getting a scooter too – no motors or anything. It would be for going to the corner market or maybe ride around the botanical garden.

Btw, looks like the bird house is coming along nicely. And great photos that capture your life nicely. 🙂

    • Cambree, I think I would like a bicycle, actually never owned one, and not a good rider also. 🙂

My dad and sister thought the bird house looked so homemade. 🙂 I went back on Sunday to sew and help with the birdhouse but the door was still not done, maybe next week I’ll get to see the birds flying in there.

  4. Congratulation with the new lense, it looks as if it will give you many new interesting challenges. The first photo is very artistic. Nice.

    • Thanks giiid, I’m going to the Body Building competition this weekend, I’ll have a feel of what it could do in a dark area.
