The Moon Tonight

Trying to capture the moon is a lot harder than I thought, one thing for sure is that I don’t have the right zoom lens. Then it started to drizzle on me, perhaps better luck next time.

    1. Hi Jason, thanks. I need to experiment some more and it might all come down to not having the right lens. My next investment is a better zoom lens, this would be good for shooting at the zoo also.

  1. I read your blog everyday and have for a long time. I enjoy the beautiful pictures and flowers.

Please feel free to stop by my blog at yellow6347.wordpress.com and hear some of my memories.

    1. Hi yellow6347, thanks so much for your visits and comment. I will definitely stop by your blog and WV sounds like a nice place to live.

  2. Yes, the moon it a LOT farther away then our eyes perceive it to be. My 400mm might do it justice. I have seen others using zooms out to 500mm that are darn good, too. The camera makes a difference. Normally I poo-poo the number of megapixels but the more the merrier for a moon shot to crop the image down and still look good.

    1. Hi Scott, it’s ashamed that I can’t afford anything higher than the Telephoto zoom lens – 70 mm – 200 mm, anything higher than that is not in my budget. I think I might try again for the harvest moon in September and October where the moon hangs low and bigger than normal.

  3. Looking at photos of the moon reminds me of Jimmy Stewart in “It’s a Wonderful Life”. The scene where he tells the girl he’ll give her the moon if she wanted it. Sweet movie.

But now I’ll probably think of you and how you’re trying to capture the perfect moon in NC. 🙂

    1. Cambree, with the gear that I have I thought it was impossible, but as you can see that following advices, and a little persistence pays off at the end. 🙂

I remember the movie, one thing our parents taught us when we were little was that we can’t have the moon and the stars, he is a brave soul to have told her that in the movie.
