Vacationing at Virginia Beach

We used to go to the beach every summer, but since my mom passed away that has changed and we’ve been visiting her monument instead.  This year we decided to stop by Virginia Beach on the way back since it’s only 3 hours from Wat Lao Buddhavong.  We didn’t have any reservation and pretty much took our chance since it was right on July 4th and most hotels were booked months in advance.  We must have asked about 6 or 7 hotels before we found this one, they had several rooms available.  July 4th week is the peak season in our area and it was $259 per night for oceanfront room, we got lucky that the rooms were on the 6th floor and a perfect spot to watch the fireworks.

We got there late Sunday and the beach was crowded with people, many were there for the fireworks.

Unlike Myrtle Beach in South Carolina that we went last year, this one has a board walk. In a sense we are still city folks and find this welcoming, I missed walking on the sidewalk in New York City.

I’m not surprised to see beach-bump since the hotels are so expensive.

I do love the sound and smell of the ocean.

And sunrise is absolutely beautiful.

  1. I am so envious!! I miss the nice beautiful beaches!! I haven’t been to the beaches in 3 years and plan on visiting Myrtle Beach soon.. I would love to visit Virginia Beach, but its way too far of a drive for me!!! Looks like you had a blast!!!

    • mozemoua, my co-worker went to Myrtle Beach and she said that they put up a board walk now, so far they have completed 1 mile stretch, and they also revamped the sidewalk, palm trees everywhere. Myrtle Beach is closer to us also, but VA beach is real nice and we had a great time. 🙂

  2. I’ve never been to the east coast beaches. It looks like a fun place to vacation.

This reminds me to plan a Santa Cruz beach vacation soon. 🙂

    • Hi Cambree, I’m glad that we decided to stop by VA beach on the way back, they have a tractor that clean the beach every morning so it’s nice and clean. My GI Joe sister said that this one looks very much like the beach in FL. We love the beach so much and might go back to Myrtle beach again on Labor Day weekend.
