Honestly, this picture is a bit embarrassing to post and I’m wondering for those that have pet, if your dog or cat sleep this way. This is his favorite sleeping position, not your typical doggy style, I’ve never seen anything like this before until he came along. I had 3 dogs prior to Max, all died of old age, it was Teddy, Ralph, and Snuggie and they all slept in a normal doggy sleeping position. Max is on the odd side, he is still peeing like a female dog, doesn’t know how to lift his leg up yet I assumed, I might have to teach him how. He just turned 1 year old a couple of weeks back, weights 69 lbs.
I posted about sleeping position before, they say that your sleeping position say a lot about you, and I’m not sure what position is Max, I guess he is a crossed between Foetus and Starfish, so Max is tough on the outside but sensitive at heart, and also a good friend, as in man’s best friend.
What your sleeping position says about you …
Foetus
Those who curl up in the foetus position are described as tough on the outside but sensitive at heart. They may be shy when they first meet somebody, but soon relax. This is the most common sleeping position, adopted by 41% of the 1,000 people who took part in the survey. More than twice as many women as men tend to adopt this position.
Log
Lying on your side with both arms down by your side. These sleepers are easygoing, social people who like being part of the in-crowd, and who are trusting of strangers. However, they may be gullible.
Yearner
People who sleep on their side with both arms out in front are said to have an open nature, but can be suspicious, cynical. They are slow to make up their minds, but once they have taken a decision, they are unlikely ever to change it.
Soldier
Lying on your back with both arms pinned to your sides. People who sleep in this position are generally quiet and reserved. They don’t like a fuss, but set themselves and others high standards.
Freefall
Lying on your front with your hands around the pillow, and your head turned to one side. Often gregarious and brash people, but can be nervy and thin-skinned underneath, and don’t like criticism, or extreme situations.
Starfish
Lying on your back with both arms up around the pillow. These sleepers make good friends because they are always ready to listen to others, and offer help when needed. They generally don’t like to be the center of attention.
My dog sleeps like that too. It’s actually common in a dog that is very friendly and non aggressive like um Labs lol. When they sleep in that position it tells you that they are in a very safe environment and feel 100% secure.
It’s just annoying when they push you to the edge of the couch and completely stretch out like that. Sometime with their head on your lap and paws in your face, snoring loudly as well.
Hi c, thanks for stopping by, Lol, I’m glad to hear it’s normal, for a minute there I thought Max is a bit weird. The sofa is his, and that’s where he sleeps. When I first saw him sleeping like that, I thought what the heck, but then kind of got used to it now.
When I told my co-workers that have big dogs and they said their dogs don’t sleep like that but some, they leave them in the cage at night to sleep, must be very uncomfortable and they stay in there all day long while their owner is at work, I feel sorry for her dogs sometimes. Max is still very young and doesn’t snore yet, but he howls when he hears my cell phone rings, it sounds very funny.
I’m starfish and foetus. 😀
lady0fdarkness, Wow! just like Max. 🙂 I’m a Foetus…but very paranoid as you can see. 😉
My cats sleep like that at times also. They would have to be on a bed to sleep like that though because it’s more comfortable to them.
I’m a freefaller. I feel that if I dont’ sleep with my belly down I can’t sleep at all. Yes, I’m gregarious and I don’t take criticisms very well.. lol
Julie, and you write a gossip blog! Lol, I don’t know how you girls do it, it’d drive me nuts.
I think Max does it because he has support from the back of the sofa, and he looks odd to me because he has such long legs and stick out like a sore thumb.
Max seems like a pretty big dog. I think you might need to get a bigger couch just for him. lol.
Isn’t there a superstition also about when you sleep with your arms crossed or putting your arm over your forehead? I’m not sure which one it is but I used to remember my grandmother telling me not to sleep in a certain position because it will be easier for a ghost to enter your body. I think that’s why I’ve always slept on my tummy. I hated how they told me that we had to sleep different ways so if a ghost comes it can’t tickle your feet. ~ Oh now I’m getting chills thinking about this.
Julie, that is my favorite couch, I gave to him, it’s very big. He got the best room in the house also, bay window overlooking my garden.
For sleeping position, it’s superstition, I was also told that when I sleep, I’m not suppose to lay my arms across my chest or in a hug myself position, not suppose to lay my arm (wrist) across my forehead, not suppose to sleep below the beams of the house because “Pee See Umm.” I don’t know how true it is, since I sleep in a Foetus position, I don’t have to worry about any of it.
Im the first one. lol. Man, more ladies then men huh? I need to rethink my sleeping positioning tonight then.. haha
trench, I’m the first one also, but in your case, it’d be interesting to know if you can change your sleeping position because it appears to be an old habit to me.
Hi Nye,
Just stumbled across your page and saw Max’s photo.
I’ve got 2 Weimaraners: George is 7 and Olive is 6. When it is warm they both will sleep like Max is. I have even played the drums with their feet and at the most they have opened an eye to watch and dozed off again. My cat, a ragdoll, also takes up this position. Perhaps it is the one of spoilt pets? 🙂
Cheers!
Hi Lily, thanks for stopping by. Max is very active, and I’d have to agree that he is very spoil. But for you, 2 Weimaraners, sounds like you have your hands full. I’m glad that I posted this picture, it’s good to know that he is not the only one that sleeps in this position. 🙂
