I’m Stinky! Please Clean Me

Office Fridge

Updated photo on 6/12/2008, this is the clean version.

I meant to post this awhile back but never had a chance to do so. We only have a handful of people in the office, and we share a refrigerator in the kitchen/break room area. I seldom open that thing, so most of the time I’m clueless as to what is inside, but they had been complaining that it was stinky in there, obviously the stinky things that they were talking about is not my Padek (fermented fish) that Lao people like to put in our Tum Buk Houng. So one lady couldn’t take it anymore, she sent emails to all of us, and it read.

The refrigerator needs to be cleaned out. It is starting to smell. If you have anything in there that you want to keep please put your name on it so that it won’t be thrown out.
Please do this today!

As you can see, it’s during her lunch time, so she must have been in there getting her lunch, the aroma must have kicked her nose, how rude. After reading her email, I thought it was rather funny, but didn’t expect so many replies to this email.

Amen; I noticed this over the weekend, too. I threw away one stinky item this morning, but I bet there are lots more.

Amen, I found a piece of cheesecake but it didn’t stink, it was still good! But I threw it in the dumpster.
Just to help out.

The frig. is still stinky.

It’s funny everyone knows they are stinky in the house so they must like it.

Amen, I just went up to look in the thing and yes it is stinky. How do you all even use it?

You can guess which reply is mine, and comes to find out, the stinky things belong to Reply #1, also known as my boss, couldn’t believe the look on his face when he couldn’t identify or recognize that things that started to turn green, and couldn’t deny that they weren’t his either because they were inside a white plastic bag with bold print “(name of local university) Bookstore”, a university that his daughter attends. As you can see, we’re really on top of things, by 2 PM the refrigerator was nice and tidy, such a great team we have here. I kind of feel sorry for the refrigerator, maybe it needs a sign that said, “Please use with care.”

  1. *laugh* The infamous office refrigerator. Our is so stinky it smell like a bad cheese or maybe a rotten milk. I think a bottle of milk must have exploded or spilled inside the fridge and it was not clean up properly sometime ago.

Nye Ginger, I thought that was your home fridge. Judging by the content of it I never thought it was in an office.

  2. Dallas, I got that picture from Flickr, but I brought my camera today and will update the photo of our office fridge for you later, there is not a lot in there. Now you know why I’m this way, look at the people that I work with, sort of rub off on me. 🙂

  3. lucky us! ours gets clean every other weekend! They send out a broadcasting email to take anything they want home, or else it’ll be trashed.. I got a good sake of snack trashed one time cos i forgot to take it out.

  4. ascandaloussin, that’s about the only way to get it clean. I think we make that kind of announcement twice a year, July and December, or in this case, when it stinks.

K, it has been there before my time and it’s not very pretty to look at, I preferred the stainless steel, but the chance of them getting a new one is very slim.

  5. Nye – I think we all experienced the nasty office fridge/microwave. At my office they try to clean it once or twice a year. hahhahah They would leave a note for people to claim their stuffs prior to certain date. Otherwise everything will be thrown out. Few people were upset cause their foods got tossed while they were on vacation.

Few times the Vietnamese co-workers was heating their fish dishes, let just say they closed off that area for few hours. Later on someone put up the sign, do not heat up any more fish. hahahhaha

    • seeharhed, a typical case of the office fridge I’m afraid. I was reading the email correspondences above, only 2 of the 6 are still working, that’s myself and another lady, talking about cut back in the staff. 😦
