According to this article, drinking water at room temperature helps alleviate stomachache. I have not tested this theory out myself because I don’t have much problem with my stomach but find it to be very interesting. Come to think about it, it’s possible that I don’t have much problem because I only drink water at room temperature, beside my black coffee and green tea. If any of you decide to give this a try and it does work, don’t forget to come back and let me know. According to this article, ‘water at room temperature’ is the best medicine for stomach problem, whether it’s gas, pain, heartburn, diarrhea, or indigestion. Original source of this article is from Koosang Koosom Magazine, Author Narong Nethjun written in Thai language, translated by Nye.

I’m an Attorney by trade, and to give advice on medicine is a bit far fetch, but hear me out. As long as I can remember, I had so many problems with my stomach, I had to be extra careful of what I ate, and any little thing can and might aggravate it. I’ve been in and out of the doctor’s office and purchased numerous kind of medication in hoping that it would cure my problem, but nothing seems to get rid, only alleviate it for a short period. No matter where I go, I had to carry an antacid medication with me at all times, I took it morning, noon, and night; seems to be my daily routines until 2 years ago when I discovered this new medicine, which is water or H2O.

It started 2 years ago, I was in a lot of pain with my stomach, creating unfriendly environment for both myself and people around me. Many thoughts ran through my head and some how as a desperate attempt, I thought of water. I thought to myself, we used water to clean many things in life, such as washing dishes, fruits, vegetables, cars, clothes, ourselves, etc. What about our organ, seems like the only organ in our body that can be cleaned out with water is our intestine. It must be pretty nasty and dirty in there for my body to produce all these nasty smells. I thought to myself that water should be able to wash it out and make it clean, just like everything else that water touches. At this point, you probably think that I’m crazy, but really think about it.

Therefore, I started my own mega (or one might called it little) experiment, as soon as I get up in the morning I would drink water to flush out my system. If I have a stomachache, I would drink more so that the water can take the place of all the gas pockets that caused the pain. Normally I would drink water so that my stomach is full at all time, but never force myself to drink. Whenever I have the need to take Tums or Rolaids, I would replace it with water, and within a week, I was pain free. I’ve been doing this for the last 2 years and not once did I have to run to the medicine cabinet, water seems to do the trick for me.

Another thing that some of you might find it a bit odd, when I feel a diarrhea coming on, in the past I would run to the medicine cabinet to get anti-diarrhea medication, but not anymore. The water at room temperature seems to do the trick, the concept of washing or flushing it out is there, and it seems to stop the diarrhea without having to take any medication. Also, if I eat too much and I feel like I’m having indigestion. I usually allow my stomach to digest for about 30 minutes, then I’ll drink water to help, it works every time and I don’t seem to have heartburn anymore, and everything is back to normal.

Bottom line, I’m very happy with this new alternative medicine, who would have thought that water could do so many wonders for our bodies. Normally we need to drink 8 glasses of water per day, why not make it room temperature water, and I hope that it will also work for you, as it does for me. I’m so excited of my new discovery and told my friends and family about it, of course they thought I was bluffing, so I went to the expert and asked my doctor and you know what he told me.

He laughed, and said “YES, the reason that he does not prescribe water for his patient is because it’s ‘conflict of interest’ for these pharmaceutical companies that make these medicines for stomach problem, Do you have any idea how much revenue these medicines generate per year? I know I spend quiet a bit of money between doctor’s visits and medicines prior to start drinking water at room temperature.

I want you to try it, but don’t drink to the point that you are about to burst, No, that’s not what I’m talking about. According to what I’ve been doing, early in the morning I would drink half a glass of water at room temperature (try to avoid cold water or ice water). I would drink water through out the day but never force myself. After a meal, such as lunch or dinner, I would wait for about half an hour before drinking anything, and then I would drink about half a glass of water because you want the water to help digest the food. In situation of indigestion or gas, then drink more water until the problem goes away and you’re back to your normal self.

Once again, I want to stress, water at room temperature or H2O can help cure your stomach problem, I know it did mine. This is a free advice from an Attorney; you have nothing to loose.

  1. What an interesting article. I should give it a try when I get a chance. I don’t like to drink cold water myself, except for when I have a craving from it. When I wake up in the morning, I make a pot of hot water and drink a cup of warm water the first thing in the morning. I also drink warm water through out the day and into the night.

I know when I eat something that doesn’t agree with me and feel sick, I tend to flush my system with water.
