This is going into the tenth week of rice planting. The hot and humid weather made some of the rice pods mature faster.

I can tell the types of rice by looking at the rice pods now and this is white rice.

The ones that were planted late are still very young.

I had to work late again and didn’t get to visit the paddy until after 6:30pm (18:30). I didn’t see that many dragonflies hovering over the paddy. I spotted the green one right before I left and didn’t get a very clear shot. I checked my camera LCD screen and wasn’t happy with it, and by the time I looked up it was gone.

This is definitely a season for the Rooster Comb flower, and it attracts bees and butterflies.

This baby robin left the nest a little too early. It barely could fly and I spotted it by my driveway.

Karma’s When I Feel Like It Blog is having another photo scavenger hunt for August. This time she is not asking for any specific items to hunt for but she is looking for a photo for each of the prominent rainbow colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. Each photo should show something specific to summertime. Bonus: a self-portrait of you in the summertime! The due date is Sunday, August 28th and I hope you will join.
I think I might have gotten lucky in this image, we visited Cool Park Pool yesterday morning.

There was one dude there that I had to take a second look. He was dressed in a lady’s swimming suit and painted his fingernails hot pink. As you can see that he is bald headed and even sitting cross legged in the pool.

I’m glad that we have a pool close to home especially for some of us that don’t have our own swimming pool. It’s $14 for adult and $7 for children to get in. The best time is to get there early when it is not too crowded.

This is my first time there, but several times for Lee. She came with the summer camp and daycare in the past.
I got up early Saturday morning to wait for the morning sunlight, this was taken at 7am.

I’ve been eating the chili peppers and they are not as hot yet, but very tasty.

The cherry tomato plants are showing sign of aging, some of the leaves are dying and drying out. I still get plenty of tomatoes, and not to mention some from my dad’s garden.

I still get the cucumber but not as abundance as last month.

A lot of caring for them and if not spot check on a regular basis, they could be gone within days. It’s one of the plants that cabbage worms love to munch on.

My cabbages are not doing too bad growing in pots, but I think it would be more ideal to grown them in the garden.

Lee’s flowers next to her swing. Her roses in the background are doing well also, this is the third set of blooms this year. The trick is to prune dead-heading to encourage new flowers and you will have blooms until the first frost in early winter.

The last time I visited the rice paddy was June 17th, and the plants were still very young then. My goal for this year rice planting was to update it weekly but with vacationing and having to work long hours I finally had a chance to visit the paddy again yesterday evening. It was extremely hot and humid. My camera lens fog up as soon as it hits the hot air, it took about 5 minutes before it starts to warm up and I could see through the viewfinder again. This is going into the ninth week of rice planting.

The aroma of the rice plants smell so nice, I wish I could load the smell in my video to share and maybe it would be something that we could do in the future. Lee saw a 4-D movie commercial recently on TV and she asked if you could smell it too. I thought that’s too funny, imagine sitting in a movie theater and you could smell everything in the movie. She thought that would be so cool, and I bet it would.

The dragonflies are hovering over the paddy and amazingly there were no mosquitoes in sight. In the environment such as the rice paddy where there are many dragonflies, the mosquitoes don’t have a chance to survive. The dragonflies make a feast out of them.

I didn’t see the damselfly in this image while I was shooting until I got home. It’s so tiny, and not an easy task to focus on them, this one came out okay but I was actually focusing on the rice pods.
