Green mango makes my mouth water, must be the association of its sourness. It’s a great snack if you are on a diet, I brought it to work to share with one of my American co-workers, she didn’t like the taste of it, and went back to her cabbage soup diet for the time being.

This is Tum mango (spicy green mango salad) and purple sticky rice, made you think of the purple sticky rice with coconut and mango, definitely not the same dish. This is good if you are on a diet, ingredients are shredded green mango, cherry tomatoes, chili peppers, cove garlic, brown sugar, fish sauce, and shrimp paste.

Wow that’s look really yummy, I have never had som tum mango before only had it with dipping sauce made with sugar, fish sauce, shrimp paste, ground roasted chilli, ground roasted rice and the mango slice really thin.
Does the mango diet really work? I need to go on a diet:(
Tell me more like- you have to eat green mango every day? and not get stomache ache?
Ok looking at that picture made my mouth watering.

salalao, I eat a lot of som tum, and spicy so my body is used to it and I don’t get a stomachache, must be clad-iron by now.
Som tum is very low in calories, and mostly vegetables, so it’s hard to gain weight and if you eat on a regular basis then you’ll lose the weight, just make sure you eat less rice (carbohydrate) also.

Wow, it looks so good.
I never had purple sticky rice with “som tum” before.
My purple sticky rice usually comes with sankaya (sweet coconut egg custard).

Kim, I bought the purple sticky rice to make Kao Sankaya but I heard that store bought purple rice is very hard, so I want to try it before making it into dessert. This one is not as good as my Hmong neighbor’s purple sticky rice.

Hi Pang, thanks for your visit and comment. Papaya, mango or any other kinds of spicy salad are a part of my meal these days, I’m looking forward to the spring/summer where there are more variety of fresh fruits and vegetables to choose from.

Nye, do you get a lot of green mangoes where you live?? It’s so scarce here in Florida!
February 24, 2010 at 4:42 pm
Nye
lady0fdarknes, sometimes we do depending on the delivery, I’m not sure where these delivery trucks come from, might be from FL.
I mailed your Jeow Bong today priority mail, you should get it in a couple of days, I hope you will like it.

Hi Nye,
This is very “mouth-watering” dish. I definitely prefer this over the cabbage soup diet! But of course, I don’t believe in dieting, for me it’s eat in moderation and walk more.
I noticed you have purple cabbage and purple rice, only missing purple yams. JK.

Cambree, thanks. I like any kind of Tum and might experiment by putting dried shrimps and other items next time. The purple cabbage and purple rice is a coincidence, and I made Tum purple cabbage with Kao Poon noodle today, not bad at all.

this just look so good. i haven’t had tum mango in so long. why brown sugar? does it make any difference then using regular? my husband likes the papaya more because the mango is too sour for him. i’m just happy that he will eat most of what i eat for a white boy. jk. 55555

Hi Terry, thanks for your visit and comments. I think white or brown sugar is just a personal preference, I like to cook with brown sugar, brings out more color in the food.
I like Tum papaya also, you’re lucky that you husband is very adventurous when it comes to food, most people are not like that.

Yummmyyyyyyyyy! I love eating green mangos. I don’t know if I can live without those in the summer. =(

Julie, we get plenty here in the summer, but I’m sure you can find some where you are.

It’s hard to find papaya salad and green mangos in Korea. =(
There’s only 1 Lao/Thai grocery store (near me) which is about a 45 minute drive away and they usually don’t have many things. Sometimes at Thai restaurants you have to see if they have any papaya salad or any papaya in stock so you can order.

Julie, I didn’t realize that it’s hard to find there, I thought it’d be like in Thailand and Laos, there’s plenty there. Since it’s hard to find papaya, maybe you can substitute carrots or cabbage instead, you can tum almost anything these days.

Nye, I would love some at the moment, but my mom had already told me “you better watch what you eat, or you’ll get sicker” so that means no green mango for me anytime soon.

mozemoua, I would eat it when I get sick also, the spicy sometimes helps break the fever. But don’t tell your mom I said so.
