It was last year that my younger sister gave me the Broad-leafed Epiphyllum, also known as Queen of the Night. I potted her in the spring, kind of funny to call a plant a ‘she’ but since it is the Queen of the Night, a female gender would be more appropriate for her. She’s given the name Queen of the Night because she bears large, strongly fragrant flowers that bloom for a single night only. This is where this clipping came from.

After I potted her, I left her sat outside my front porch, I thought that the fresh air and sunlight would be good for her, but I was wrong, she didn’t grow any during the summer. I brought her back inside in the fall and sits her in my hallway, and within a month or so, she starts sprouting left and right.

This is a very fascinating plant, I can’t wait to see her blooms.

Glad to see your plant is looking nice and green. Maybe it will flower by spring.
I keep my Queen outside and there was one bloom last month. I should try planting one indoor just to see if it would grow. It does make a nice houseplant.

Cambree, mine seems to do better indoor than outdoor. It would be great if it will flower by spring, I was thinking maybe next year.

Nye – Nice hardwood floor:-). Is that “pha pair ee po” you’re using to protect your floor? Oh!! Nice entry door as well:-).

Hi seeharhed, only you would notice,
I try to post enough to show that there is plenty of light during the day. The hardwood floor takes a lot of beating from Max, my house is lived in. I’m not sure what is ‘Pha pair ee po” but the one that I have is an upholstery fabric that I sew as plates-mat, it’s kind of nice that I didn’t have to buy.

Nye, do you know where I can find this plant? I love flowery plants, but then I have the worst Green Thumb ever!

mozemoua, I’m not sure where they sell them, my younger sister got a clipping from her neighbor’s mom and not even sure if that one survived, the last I heard was that they died because she left them outside in the winter. I didn’t see any at the Boun (Festive) event at the temple. When mine gets bigger, I can do a clipping and mail it to you, not sure how long it’ll take though, we’ll see by my next posting of this.

Your hard work of growing this plant will really be worth it when the flower blooms.
My gifted and talented older sister used to grow this type of flower. She called me to her place to enjoy when it began to bloom. It was so beautiful and the fragrant was strong, but nice.
However, the flower lasted only a night so I was sad to see it was wilted too soon.

Kim, I’m not sure how long I can keep it at that spot, my dog Max walks passed there several times a day, Bo takes him for a walk and they go out through the front door, I just hope he doesn’t eat it first. I told Bo to keep an eye on him, touch that plant…dead owner, dead dog.
