Continued from: The Ghost of Pi Rahud Part I

I asked her, “Ann, what’s the matter?  I’m lost, can you help tell the way?”

Ann didn’t answer, but only pointed toward the back.  I looked in the direction of her pointing but only saw darkness.  I looked at Ann once more and noticed that she had lost one of her shoes, so I woke Prew, then made a U turn to go back to look for Ann’s shoe and when I made a complete turn around then I was startled when I heard Prew yell, “Hey, why come this way?  Go back to the dorm, go back!”

The situation didn’t look too good, both Ann and Prew acted like they were afraid of something, I was confused by this time, then I paid more attention to my surrounding, it was kind of eerie, dead silence, not even the sound of crickets nor wind.  The moon casting a dim light, and everything looked shadowy, this  made me realize that we were not far from the football stadium.

At that moment, I could smell something in the air, it smelled like rotting corpse of dead body, and when I made eye contact with my two friends, I knew then that they smelled the same thing.  I started to understand the situation, and that we parked next to the football stadium that ‘that brother’ hung himself.

The situation got worse when the engine shut off for no apparent reason.  I attempted to start the engine by hand crank several times, but it wouldn’t start back up.  Then I attempted to use my foot to crank, but it was harder since it bears the weight of 3 people.  I asked my friends to get off, but both were scared and refused, so I had to crank it back up the best I knew how.  We finally got back to the dorm without saying a word, all 3 of us couldn’t sleep, and Ann got up to say her prayers for about an hour, while Prew told me that if I have any question to talk about it in the morning.

The next morning, Ann asked us to join her at the temple for merit making or Tum Boun, she didn’t say much.  Prew told us of last night’s incident with a shaking voice and she said that when she woke up, she was very sleepy but realized that we were at the wrong place, but didn’t dare say anything because if she did, then she was afraid that the ghost might come toward us.  And when she saw that I had made a U turn and facing the football stadium, she was scared, and she looked at Ann, and all she saw was Ann pointing toward the tree, and when she looked in that direction, then she saw what Ann was seeing.

Prew said that she saw a man standing beneath the big tree, and had his back toward us.  But it’s possible that someone was drunk and stood there peeing on the side of the road, but when he turned around to face us, then she realized that he was not a human at all because his eyes, nose and mouth looked dark, sort of smeared all over, he didn’t look anything like human.

And even scarier was that his hair had golden highlights and both Ann and Prew knew too well that Pi Rahud that hung himself had the same hair color.  Since I was the driver, Prew didn’t want to scare me and that’s why she told me to return to the dorm.  Prew said that this was the scariest thing that she had encountered and wanted to scream but was afraid that it might scare me, and I might faint.   If that were to happen and we can’t get back to the dorm, no telling what would happen to us.

When I had an opportunity, I asked Ann if who we saw last night was the ghost of Pi Rahud.  Ann nodded her head and handed me a yantra cloth for me to hang it in front of my door and said that this will protect me from the ghost spirit, he won’t follow me back home.

Prew said that Ann had numerous encounters with the ghost of Pi Rahud prior to this and it was because he was in loved with her, and when he passed away, he continued to visit her as a ghost.  But Ann was afraid of him, she couldn’t eat nor sleep and lost a lot of weight but no one dare offer to help her because they were afraid that he might visit them as well.

When we got to Wat (Buddhist Temple), we Tum Boun (merit making) and pouring water ceremony to offer merit to him.  Afterward, we asked the monk to bless us with holy water, he paused for a brief moment then said, “This holy water only helps you emotionally, you must stay focus, meditate and offer merit to the spirit every once in a while.  He didn’t come to harm you, but still had a strong tie to the human world.  He had so much worries but can’t communicate with anyone, and didn’t know that he is scaring people.”

We felt much better after the monk explained the situation to us.  After I returned to Krung Thep, I heard that Ann left the University and transferred to the one in Krung Thep the following semester, and Prew was doing well and tried not to take that route at night time.

Three years had passed and faith brought me back to that University again.  I applied for a position, and passed the exam and got accepted to work at the University.  Every time I passed the football stadium, I felt chills ran down my spine, but luckily I’ve not seen anything like that again.
