Yes, my mom said they only grow along the river bank. It is native to Asia.

But I forgot to ask her what it's call in Lao.

Lila, I've never seen Crape myrtle tree in Laos, made me wondered if it's called Tun Pieuw in Thai, although they have bigger flowers I thought. My dad enjoys spending time in his garden.

Your dad has a nice garden. Lots of healthy veggies. :)

The "Crape myrtle trees" are pretty. This is also my mom's favorite flowering tree. She said they grow all over her farm back in Laos. Someday I will plant one of these for her.

In the meantime, the city plants them all over as sidewalk landscaping and shade trees. Spring and summer is when they are in full bloom.

Cambree, thanks for such nice feedback, it's lots of photos and I'm glad that WordPress have given us so much free space.

My dad didn't have any problem, but then he used to grow corn when we were living in Thailand. We all liked it, and it must be the first time Bo has seen it because he told my dad that he picked them too early, they're still very tiny and should let them grow a bit more. I think Bo learned something new. :)

I'm glad that Lee enjoys visiting Grandpa, my dad and second sister enjoy our company and we look forward to visiting them every weekend, and my other sisters join us when ever they have time, it's kind of nice.

Glad to see Lee is having so much fun visiting her grandpa's garden. I remember doing that as a kid too.

I've tasted those small corns before - I didn't like how they are so sticky. But my mom loves them. She said they are difficult to grow, yet it looks like your dad has no problem at all.

Thanks again for sharing the garden updates with us. Whether it's at the Biltmore Estate or your own backyard, it's still all very nice. :)

lady0fdarkness, Tum mak Tua is good with Thai eggplants and papaya, I don't know if you have ever tried fixing it that way. We visited my dad's friend in St. Petersburg, Fl once and I love the fact that you can grow papaya and banana all year round, I used to want to move there because of the nice warm weather, but it appears that cost of living is higher than where we live, everything is so expensive over there.

Hi PaNoy, I'll ask if he has some to spare because it looks like my brother in law is interested in planting some after trying the corn on Saturday and my dad harvested most of it already.

your dad's garden looks a lot like my mom's garden. I took some photos of my mom's garden, but it was during the late evening. Unfortunately the lighting was pretty much zero. So I've got to visit her garden again during the early day. We've been eating a lot of Tum Mak Tua since her string beans are growing out of control.
