As we get older, we lost more and more people that we loved, and for some, the father that you loved dearly. I hope this special day, Father’s Day will bring you peace and closure, he was and will always be a part of you.
As for me, I’m blessed to have our dad with us, I think my outlook in life has changed since my mom passed away, life is more precious now than ever. It’s no longer the quantity but it’s the quality of life that I appreciate more this day.
My dad lives a more simple life this day, he spends a lot of his time in his garden and enjoying the visits from his children and grandchildren.

Updated photos: A Father’s Day cookout.

My specialty, tum maak houng or spicy papaya salad.

Wow! His cucumber plants look really healthy. Ask your sister if I can borrow her ‘green thumb’ for next year planting season. We got plenty of cucumbers so far, but the leaves are starting to turn yellow. Maybe I need to find the more disease resistant seeds for next year.
Wish your father a Happy Father’s Day for me…and also that comedian guy/friend/herb or hubb/teddy bear/etc as well:))

Hi PaNoy, I’ll let Bo know, geeze, almost got me in trouble, I got an email about ‘veggie p0rn’ at my blog, Lol.
As for my dad, I’ll let him know this evening, we’re having a cookout at his house, and wish you a happy father’s day also, same for your brother.

Yes, that is a healthy cucumber plant!
My mom has stopped growing cucumbers for years. Her specialty now is pumpkin. The blossoms are edible. The young baby pumpkins are also good and so are the mature ones. Very nutty and sweet.

lady0fdarkness, that’s very odd, but a lot of odd things has happened lately, I’ve to be careful of what I wish for this day, it always come true, and the outcome is not always a good thing.
I’d love to see your parents’ garden, the weather is a lot hotter in your area and I wonder how the vegetables are doing.

Those looks yummy!! I wish I can cook because the only time I have stick rice somtum or laap or any lao dishes. I have to go to my parent house which is rarely like every 3 months. I’m so hungry for lao food right now. I can’t wait for July 4th weekends so I can pig out at wat. I’ll be visiting all the stalls buying all my favorites food, oh I can’t wait

salalao, I made som tum almost everyday, so I’m good at it. My second sister didn’t know how to cook until after my mom passed away, and she has to do all the cooking now, and I’m surprised that her cooking is actually pretty good, we’re her Ginnie pig for a long time. Mine is not so bad, a bit odd at times. I’m also looking forward to eating the dessert at Wat Lao.

“life is more precious now than ever. It’s no longer the quantity but it’s the quality of life that I appreciate more this day.” I agree!
What a great way to celebrate Father’s day. I would like a piece of that veggie kabob please.

Cambree, the food was good, a bit more simple because most Lao gathering that I went to has a more elaborate Lao food. As for the veggie kabob, my second sister seasoned them before she put them on the stick, so it has a good flavor as well.
I think I’m tired from being in the rat race, I take my time now and the end result is more rewarding in my opinion…live and enjoying life a bit more.

mozemoua, we had a cook out every father’s day, and when we were living in NYC, most of us were living near each other so it was more festive, but now it’s just those that are here, but my dad seems happy that we were there on this special day.
