I didn’t forget to translate the ghost story that I’ve mentioned earlier, but I misplaced that magazine and couldn’t find it at the moment. I’ve too many Thai magazines and need to organize it a bit better.
I finally have my wooden picket fence up, and I’ve always dreamed of a white picket fence for my garden, but somehow when it’s finally up, the brown wooden color is more charming, and feels more cozy to me, and I think I might leave it as the natural brown color for now. I’m happy that my dad was able to help me, it took us 2 days to get it done, and by doing it ourselves, I was able to save a lot of money and the labor was not that bad, the hardest work was digging the posts, and I only had 8 posts to dig, then mixed and pour the concrete to set the posts. It is still very cold in our area, and we worked as fast as we could to get it done.
As for now, the garden is still a lawn, and I’ve some idea of which direction I want to go with this. I’ve been visiting Barnes & Nobles to look at gardening books and magazines, and found several that I really like, but it’s awfully expensive and couldn‘t bring myself to buy one. Then one of my friends suggested that I visit the library, which would most likely have a good collection of gardening books.
Of course, I didn’t visit the New York Public Library, the photos above were taken the last time I was there in August 2008, and I’m sure they have a nice collection of gardening books. I live in a small town, so our local library is very small in comparison to the one in NYC, but they have a nice collection of gardening books as well, and I checked out 6 books today, and I’m sure I’ll go back for more in the near future, we’re allowed to check out 20 items at a time, and this could be a combination of books, music cds, movies, or magazines.
I think most of us don’t think of the library when it comes to book, and might be because there are many nice book stores with star buck coffee inside that you can sit and relax, but this can be very costly. I find library to be very useful, but sadly I don’t visit it often enough and might be because we’ve the internet right at the tip of our fingers, but strangely when it comes to looking at gardening stuff, I still like to flip through the pages of books and magazines. It looks like I’ve lots of reading to do.

That fence looks really nice. You and your father did a great job. WOW! How’s the plan for the garden layout coming along?
Check out garden blogs throughout the world. I like those posted by folks from the UK and Canada the most, very nice layout, very English:))

PaNoy, thanks, it’s a bit too cold to do it now, but I’m glad it’s done.
I think having the fence up is a big accomplish for me, you know how it goes sometimes. I’m still looking around to see which direction I’m going with this, I can think better knowing what I can work with. I’m hoping to visit a garden next weekend.

lady0fdarkness, don’t feel bad, when I was living in NYC I didn’t get to visit the NY Library much, I only visited the school library, office building looking also.

Thanks mozemoua. I’ve to see how it’d turn out, as of right now my budget is very little, I’d have to rely on a lot of landscaping instead of hardscape.

I agree with you about the bookstore, especially ones with a cafe. The smell of coffee alone makes me happy. But both are good combinations!
Libraries are really amazing. You get to check out stuff and return them, so it won’t clutter the home. Plus it saves you money.
And of course, your workmanship on the fence looks great. I can see the lily pond and the Pagoda too. I can just imagine how nice the summer must be in your backyard.

Salat, I could probably hang out at the bookstore and not buy anything because I’ve seen people do that all the time, and the bookstore don’t seem to mind that people just go there to read, but I feel guilty doing that, especially the aroma of the coffee and not buying myself any. I think the library is a perfect solution for me.
As for my garden, so far I know I want to make a path to the vegetable garden area, have a wooden swing adjacent to the fishpond, and plant some fruit trees next to it, but since I started early, I still have time to do some planning.

My (almost) Complete Garden « Nye Noona
