I came upon this food photo by SusieBlueC, I think certain types of food conveys certain feeling, for some of us, seeing Lao food made us think of our family and friends, whether here in the state or back home in Laos, some might be drooling right now. I think what made our Lao meal so special is being able to share the same dish with others, when I was younger, I introduced this concept to my Chinese friends, as one of my friends that I grew up with would call it “eating the family style”, which I think is a perfect description for our feast, unlike ordering American food at a restaurant, each dish is for that person only.
The photo below captures the image of Lao food, as for me this is better than any steak, pizza or hamburger, and I’m looking forward to sitting down and eating Lao food the Lao way, as Lao people would say “Ma Gin Kao Der” (come eat with us)

that looks really yummy! I see dishes that we would normally eat at our traditional parties! ofcourse Hmong people uses alot of Thai and Laos dishes.

Yes, Nye Ginger, the food looks so good. I would rather eat Lao food than any other food…well, I am forgetting my other half (Vietnamese food is good too.) But nothing beat sticky rice with jeow, grilled fish and larb is soo good.
Lao style of eating might not look too pleasant for non Lao. I mean the idea of sharing a soup bowl or dipping from the same dish of larb can be a problem to them.

ascandaloussin, I think each culture has unique dishes, and then some dishes that are shared by many cultures. It’s interesting of what you said; we actually have a Thai restaurant in our area that is owned by a Hmong family.
Dallas, what I like best about Lao food is that it’s not as fattening as the American food, and it’s flavored for our taste buds.

Once I see this pic. I feel really hungry and it reminds me to miss on my family and lao food.
I agree with you guys that lao food is very nice and lao style of eating is quite differrent from other countries but it is a kind of warmness and hamony.
Over here I can not find any lao food restaurant just only Thai restaurant, the food is quite similar to Lao food but it is very expensive.
I wish after i graduate i can have chance back to enjoy my beloved country’s food.

Hi DekLao, thanks for the visit, I do have to admit that seeing Lao foods and eating the Lao style made me think of back home. I think I feel connected to Laos because I was born there, and I’m like you, hope to go back to enjoy the real Lao foods in Laos.
